With Thanksgiving right around the corner, everyone is thinking about more ways to be grateful. But is being thankful and showing gratitude one time a year enough for us?
Giving thanks and being kind are things we can practice all year round. Here are a few ways you can bring this practice alive in your own life and keep it going into the new year.
What is Gratitude?
Gratitude is the act of being thankful or showing appreciation. We can be grateful in many ways. Showing gratitude doesn't mean big over-the-top grand gestures like large gifts and showiness. In fact, at Sha-Faun Enterprises, we would argue that those little acts of kindness and being thankful are much more potent in your life and the lives of others.
Because small gestures are much easier to stick with and get into the habit of, we will focus on small ways you can show and give more gratitude in your life, starting today.
Sha-Faun's Thankfulness Habits:
Remember your manners:
Being thankful isn't always easy. When you're running late, and the coffee drive-through is long, it can be hard to remember that others around us could be having similar experiences. So, the next time you pull through the drive-up window for your late afternoon tea or latte pick-me-up, remember to thank the person who hands you your beverage.
As adults, we can sometimes forget to practice using our manners. "Please" and "thank-you" can go a long way to show people around us that we appreciate them, even if it's just for handing you a coffee through a window.
*For those days when the coffee lines are long, and all the traffic lights are red, you can use your car diffuser to bring some peace and calm to your commute with Young Living essential oils. *
Write it down:
Grab a notebook. Any notebook you have laying around. Open it up to the first page and put today's date at the top. Now put down three bullet points. Write down three things you are thankful for right now. These don't have to be significant items. It could look something like this:
*At Sha Faun, we like to take a few moments every once in a while, and look back at all the things that we've been grateful for in the past. *
One of the most remarkable ways you can show and give more gratitude is by spreading kindness. Lending a helping hand, holding the door for someone, or spreading a smile around the room are small ways to show your thankfulness.
That includes being kind to yourself. You can't spread kindness if you're not first kind to yourself. Something as simple as diffusing your favorite calming blends in the morning or dabbing an oil roller on your wrist on your way out the door can help you focus on yourself a little more often.

When life gives us lemons, we make summer in a bottle by capturing the zest of bright, sunny days in our unique Lushious Lemon™ essential oil blend. We’ve elevated our lively Lemon essential oil with a dash of floral Ylang Ylang and a few drops of cooling Spearmint and Eucalyptus Globulus to give you a blend that perfectly encapsulates the essence of summer.
A dreamy blend of botanicals;
Let there be no confusion: We love the classics. And while Lemon essential oil will always be a household favorite, our Lushious Lemon blend perfectly elevates the citrus aroma we’ve come to know and love. This complex mix of essential oils elevates every note for a sweet, citrusy aroma with floral and minty undertones. Let’s take a deeper look at each of the botanicals we chose for this blend:
Lemon myrtle: Native to Australia and known as the “queen of lemon herbs,” lemon myrtle has an uplifting, refreshing aroma.
Lemon: Fresh, ripe lemons are grown on the Amanzi Amahle Cooperative Farm in South Africa. The rinds are cold pressed to obtain bright and joyful Lemon essential oil.
Ylang ylang: Grown and distilled at Young Living’s Finca Botanica Farm and Distillery in Chongon, Ecuador, ylang ylang has a comforting, floral aroma. Ylang Ylang essential oil can be used to moisturize and support the appearance of healthy skin.
Spearmint: Distilled at the Labbeemint Partner Distillery in Washington, USA, spearmint has a refreshing aroma, and the essential oil has a cooling sensation on skin.
Eucalyptus globulus: Native to China, eucalyptus globulus has a cool, invigorating aroma.
How will you use Lushious Lemon?
Just like our original Lemon essential oil, the Lushious Lemon blend is incredibly versatile and ready to be incorporated into your daily life. Try some of our favorite uses for this bright and fresh blend.
Mix ingredients together in a bowl. Gently buff the body scrub on skin during your shower. Rinse off. Store in an airtight jar for up to 2–3 months.
YL tip: To help your scrub stay fresh and last longer, do not let any water mix into the product while you use it. Scoop product out with clean, dry hands.
Refresh your carpet with baking soda and the fresh aroma of Lushious Lemon. Fill an empty 2-ounce glass salt shaker ¾ full with baking soda. Add 10–15 drops of Lushious Lemon and shake until the baking soda and essential oil have mixed. Sprinkle the mixture on your carpet and let sit for 15–20 minutes before vacuuming.
YL tip: Avoid direct sunlight or UV rays for up to 12 hours after applying this product to your skin. Learn more photosensitive essential oil safety tips here.

Essential oils and kids are a hotly debated topic. Mommy groups and discussion threads get pretty heated when it comes to essential oils and kids.
While aromatherapy is lovely for the entire family, there are a few guidelines you should follow when considering using essential oils around your kids and babies.
At Sha Faun Enterprises, we use Young Living essential oils in our everyday lives, but we do keep certain oils put up and away from our little ones.
Here are a few tips and tricks on using essential oils around your little ones and a few things NOT to do.
Stick with "kid-safe" oils:
Certain essential oils are not safe for use around kids. "Hot" oils like cinnamon, clove, oregano, and thyme aren't safe for kids because their little bodies can't handle the strength of these oils.
Here are a few of our favorite kid-friendly oils:
Always Dilute and Perform a Patch Test:
Our little ones have sensitive little bodies. So anytime you are trying a new essential oil with your kids, you should ALWAYS dilute it in a carrier oil such as sweet almond oil. You should also try a patch test first to make sure their skin can handle the essential oil.
Even during bath time, you should dilute your baby's oils in a carrier oil first.
How to Perform a Patch Test:
Patch tests help you determine which kid-friendly oils you can use in your little one's sleepy time rollers and bath bubbles without worrying about a reaction.
When using essential oils on your little ones, be sure not to put any oils on their hands or wrists where they can easily rub in in their eyes. We love using a kid-friendly roller on the bottoms of the feet and then putting some cotton socks over their feet.
How to use essential oils with your little ones:
Essential oils are excellent for calming our little ones down for a good night's sleep, soothing boo-boos, and much more. Here are a few of our favorite ways to use essential oils with our kids at Sha-Faun Enterprises.
Sha-Faun's favorite essential oil uses for little ones:
We have one last word of caution with essential oils and your little ones.
Many citrus oils are photosensitive oils that can increase your chances of sunburn while in the sun. So be careful with these types of oils if your little one plans to play in the sun.
